Celebrate 30 Years in Thomaston
with New Haven RS-3 Locomotive No. 529
The Railroad Museum of New England is pleased to announce its “Celebrate 30” events September 25-27, 2026, sponsored by Thomaston Savings Bank. It was 30 years ago, on September 26, 1996, that the Railroad Museum of New England and its wholly owned subsidiary, Naugatuck Railroad, began operating in the Upper Naugatuck Valley in Connecticut. There will be special train operations September 25-27 to celebrate the tremendous effort by Museum volunteers and Railroad paid staff over the last 30 years to get the Museum to where it is today!
The power for these trains will be historic New Haven RS-3 Locomotive No. 529, recently restored to operation! For the first time in 15 years, experience the unforgettable sights and sounds of this beautifully restored classic as it powers special anniversary excursions through the scenic Naugatuck River Valley.
Event Schedule
Friday, September 25
Night Photo Session beginning at 8:30 PM at Thomaston Station featuring restored New Haven Railroad Alco RS-3 diesel locomotive No. 529. Tickets are $30.00.
Saturday, September 26
Special train leaving Thomaston Station at 12:00 PM, running south to end of Naugatuck Railroad track at Waterbury.
Sunday, September 27
Special trains leaving Thomaston Station at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM running north to the end of track in Torrington.
Train information
All three special trains on Saturday and Sunday include a photo run-by and full bar service available on board. Tickets are just $50 per person (coach class only). The consist for both days will be:
